Lost Islands!
19 Apr 2025 - 29 Mar 2026

Join us on a magical adventure to explore the islands of Singapore and Indonesia. This collaboration between The Artground and Indonesian artist Rachmi Pertama brings legendary tales to life.

Travel with us as we uncover myths, folklore, and legends. Where young explorers can climb atop a sleeping turtle or walk along a sensory path on the back of a mythical sea dragon.

An exciting journey awaits in a place where islands and their stories come alive!

About the Artist(s)

Rachmi is a designer with a strong background in industrial and packaging design. She has worked in multinational advertising agencies for various brands in Indonesia and also as a part-time design lecturer. When she moved to Bandung, West Java, she left her job and started 'UlangAlik curiosity lab' to pursue her interest in embracing curiosity through art, design & storytelling for children. In 2021, UlangAlik was selected for the TYA incubation program at Gulali Lab and began focusing on puppetry - producing, directing, and performing puppetry for children's audiences. Her works have been presented at many festivals, children’s events, schools, and children's communities in and beyond Indonesia.

She lives in Bandung with her husband, a professional artist, and their two teenage sons - the oldest is a neurodivergent who loves to draw comics and the youngest is an enthusiastic guitar player. As a family, they also often perform together in puppetry performances, and their teens are also involved in the creative process.

When not working she enjoys spending her time reading comics and children's picture books, doodling or writing simple stories. Lost Island was first inspired by her observing of how excited the neighbourhood kids were as they jumped around in a large, upside-down round stone plant pot in her yard every time they passed by. Make her wonder what they are imagining.
