Watch Me Watch You
By Rachel Nip, Faaiqah & Ameezy | GroundBreakers 2023
Watch Me, Watch You shares the joy of sign language, sign mime and movement with children ages 6 to 9 and is an engaging storytelling experience performed by Deaf and hearing performers. Through interaction with the performers, children will learn signs from Singapore Sign Language (SgSL), explore movement and feelings with their bodies and learn how the Deaf and hearing communities can communicate and be friends with one another. Come have fun and experience the many different ways we can communicate with one another! |
About the Artists Hello, How Do You Move? is a collective started in 2019, with Ammar ‘Ameezy’, a Deaf choreographer, performer and filmmaker and Rachel Nip, a hearing choreographer and performer in dance and theatre. The collective collaborates with other Deaf and hearing artists to create projects inspired by Deaf culture, language and perspectives. Favourite projects include Hello, How Do You Move? (The Theatre Practice), Tell-Tale Signs (ART:DIS) and KINetic, a Virtual Reality dance created with The Doodle People and Ang Ga-Young. For this work "Watch Me Watch You", Ammar and Rachel are joined by Faaiqah, a Deaf dancer and interpreter who have performed internationally and locally as part of Redeafination, Singapore's Deaf hip hop dance crew. Faaiqah is passionate about Singapore Sign Language (SgSL), her first language, and uses it in children's storytelling and aspires to be a role model to Deaf children. They are excited to step into the TYA world as part of Groundbreakers 2023 to share the joys of sign language, sign mime and movement by creating new theatrical experiences for Deaf, Hard-of-Hearing and hearing children. |
